ACCOMMODATIONS

We have selected several hotels for your stay in Paris during ISMIR 2002, either for their location (close to the site, or in a picturesque area of Paris), their style (“typical”) or for their price. See the attached map. We have visited them all, and would have gladly stayed in any of them. Prices include breakfast. The following table lists the hotels. You will have to make the reservation yourself with the hotel or agency as specified.

Note that:

· These prices are special for ISMIR 2002 (mention “ISMIR 2002” when you reserve) attendees.

· Room availability in Paris is scant – the rooms are held for ISMIR 2002 until August 31. After this date, the hotels will not guarantee availability and/or the conference rate (but they may propose alternate pricing and accommodations).

	The hotel is just steps away from the Opera House, the picturesque “covered galleries” (see below the description of the Quality Pulitzer for details and read Walter Benjamin’ famous book) renowned department stores, the stock exchange, theatres and concert halls. This wonderful hotel combines traditional French decor from the 19^th cent. (known as “Second Empire”) with all of the modern amenities. 	A block away from the Brébant, it is a very clean and new hotel with modern facilities and designer furniture. It has fully air-conditioned rooms with complete bathrooms, double electrical outlets for telephone/computer with Internet connection (local rate). On the same block you’ll find: Á la mère de famille (n° 35), the oldest confectioner’s shop (confiserie) of Paris, going back to 1761, with wonderfully-looking and tasting products; the Chartier (n° 7), a large traditional restaurant in a slightly worn-out grand setting going back over a century; several of the famous Passages of Paris, Passage Verdeau (n° 31bis) full of antique, rare books and musical instrument stores, which runs into the Passage Jouffroy (described by Émile Zola in his novel Nana, and where you shouldn’t miss the wonderful 1882 wax museum Grévin), which in turn runs into the Passage des Panoramas across the Boulevard Montmartre, Distance to ISMIR: 20 minutes walking distance or by subway

	A couple of blocks east of the Quality Pulitzer Opéra, this hotel has fully air-conditioned rooms with en-suite bathroom (bath or shower), direct-dial telephone (by request: rooms with modem sockets, no-smoking rooms) and a restaurant lounge. Close to the Folies Bergère, a host of ethnic restaurants (oriental, kosher), and the places mentioned above. Distance to ISMIR: 25 minutes walking distance or by subway

	This charming three stars hotel, fully renovated in the Marais 18^th century style (Le Marais is a historic district, and Ircam is right in there) is situated in the center of Paris, a few steps away from museums (Carnavalet, Picasso, Pompidou, Cognac-Jaÿ, Jewish Museum and many others), from jewellery and clothing shops, bars and restaurants next to the Place des Vosges and Hötel de Sully.  Distance to ISMIR: 7 minutes walking distance.

	Located in the very centre of the capital, within a stone’s throw of the Louvre Museum, the Palais Royal and les Halles, this hotel boasts one of the best locations in the cultural heart of Paris. Distance to ISMIR: 15 minutes walking distance or 5 minutes by subway.

	This hotel, adjoining the 19^th century splendid covered Galerie Vivienne, is a real peace haven in the middle of all the Parisian fashion, culture and business goings-on. Right in the centre of the square created by the Palais-Royal, the Halles, the Louvre and the Stock Exchange, you will discover the charm of a small Parisian hotel. Distance to ISMIR: 15 minutes walking distance or 10 minutes by bus (n° 29).

	Located opposite the Botanical Gardens and the Natural History Museum, this hotel is in the center of the historical Latin Quarter and its typical ambiance. It is close to the Roman Arenas (“Arènes de Lutèce”) and to the Pierre-and-Marie-Curie University, to the Paris Mosque and to other landmarks. The hotel’s roof terrace is ideal for breakfast on sunny days, and the sauna is an equally attractive alternative for relaxing in this charming hotel. Distance to ISMIR: 20 minutes walking distance, or 15 minutes by subway.

	While this is the farthest removed from ISMIR, the location is so exceptional we thought some might want to stay there. Perched on the slopes of Montmartre, next door to the celebrated Bateau Lavoir of Renoir, Toulouse-Lautrec, Picasso and many other famous painters, the location of this hotel is one of the most desirable in Paris. Set beside a quaint chestnut tree square and a Wallace Fountain, it looks like a scene from a picture postcard. Distance to ISMIR: 35 minutes by subway.

	This modest and clean friendly hotel is a couple of blocks away from the Hélios and in the same neighborhood. Distance to ISMIR: 20 minutes by subway.
